From Android to iPhone users, everyone likes to keep the phone using a simpler and easier process. Or to put it in some technical words, people look for an easier user interface or UI.

Whether you are adding something in your mobiles To-do list, or marking an event in the calendar, you’d look for the quickest way to get to those apps. That simplest way is provided by some special features: widgets.

Widgets are simpler applications that let you use your mobile effectively. Also, you can select several widgets and the type of widgets that you want to place on your mobile screen. So, you won’t have to tap the real app to check the complete information about it. Instead, you can have a quick look about that app through its widget.

Every software and application developing company also comes up with some of the cool yet quick-to-use widgets. They also offer half-cooked or partially developed widgets that you can customize accordingly- if you know how to do it.

These software companies offer a complete catalogue for widgets so you can select any of them. However, some of the most effective and popular widgets are given here:

  • Weather widgets
  • To-do list
  • Calendar
  • Control widgets
  • Time widgets
  • Music widgets
  • File and document widgets

Customising accordingly

Widgets are easy to control: you can place them anywhere on your mobile screen by a single tap. Whether you want to resize a widget or want to change its position, all is just a single tap away.

More than that, you can also control and customize each widget separately from the setting bar. Also, you can select which type of widget you want to keep on your mobile screen.

Every smartphone offers a wide range of widget options from which you can choose your desired type. For instance, you might see more than two or three clock widgets. So, that is up to the user which style he prefers for his mobile screen.

Pre-installed widgets

When you got your smartphone in your hand, the first thing you’d have noticed is that it already had some of the pre-installed widgets. Those widgets are built-in. That means you don’t have to download them separately. However, some other applications that you would have installed later, also come in the form of widgets. Thus, you can stay updated with your favourite apps without even launching or opening them. This is possible by their widgets.

General widgets categories

Many application developers categorise widgets according to the functions they perform. There are other categories too, but generally you can divide widgets according to their functions.  You would notice these main categories in your android or iPhone:

  • Control widgets

These widgets let you control mobile or its apps features. For instance, if you want to control music volume or ringtone volume, you can use these widgets. Also, many smart applications like air conditioners can also be controlled by these widgets. For that you will have to pair your smart AC with your mobile phone and then download its relevant app on your mobile. After that you need to get its widget to control room temperature from mobile. Voila! It’s easy and painless.

  • Information widgets

In these widgets, you will find summary or quick information about that app. For instance, if you are using a Weather widget, it will show you all the basic information about the current weather. So, you won’t have to open the particular app every single time. Simply place its widget on the mobile screen to get alerts.

  • Hybrid widgets

These widgets are collections of all other types of widgets. Or to put it in simpler words, a hybrid widget is a type of widget that can either provide information, collect information, control things at one panel.

  • Collection widgets

If you want to collect and manage all your important files and documents, you can use these widgets. Collection widgets manage and keep important data and similar documents that you add into these widgets.

Building Your Own Widgets

Many software developing companies offer this feature: you can build your own widget. If you want to make a widget of your choice, you can do so by simply visiting the widget library of any software developing company.

You can also take some guide or help from the samples present in those libraries or catalogues. Hence, you can optimize your apps by building their widgets.

You may find a wide range of widgets on your smartphone. However, it is up to you which type of widget you want to have on your mobile screens. These apps can make your mobile using experience better, quicker and easier. Other than getting widgets from your smartphone library, you can also create your own widget. So, improve this experience by wisely choosing a widget.
